Agriculture and Environment

 

Introduction

Padakhep believes in a comprehensive approach of integrating microfinance program with all agricultural interventions focusing mainly on modern and appropriate technology including quality seeds, fertilizer & pest management and marketing support to scale up agriculture sector significantly. This in turn will improve the overall socioeconomic condition of the target farmers. With this end in view, Padakhep, since its beginning, has progressively put special emphasis on agriculture program.

Padakhep has been implementing different technology-based projects from its own fund and fund from development partners. Important development partners include BARI, BRRI, IFAD, JBIC, OXFAM-GB, Aranyak Foundation, LGED, DAE, BARC, DLS and Department of Fisheries. Total beneficiaries covered under the agriculture program are about 1.5 million families, most of whom are marginal and small farmers.

Objectives

  • increase production of crops, forests, fishery and livestock
  • make agricultural credit and other inputs available to the farmers for better production
  • preserve and encourage green tree coverage and produce alternative energy to ensure clean environment 
  • ensure agro-based, self-financed and sustainable income generating activities for self-employment
  • conduct agricultural research considering the importance of environment and sustainability
  • apply information technology and make extension and marketing services available to the farmers

Major Projects

      • Restoration and Conservation of Biodiversity in Barind Dhamoirhat Sal Forest, Naogaon
      • Small-scale Water Resoursces Development project in Greater Mymensingh, Sylhet and Faridpur Areas
      • Minimizing Yield Gap in Rice Based Cropping Systems in Three Northern Districts Project

The projects are undertaken in problem areas like char, monga, haor/baor, costal, tribal and river basin areas of the country.
