Education

Padakhep has been undertaking non-formal primary education program since 1995. The general purpose of the program is to provide and ensure quality education to the future generations with the ultimate goal of poverty reduction and sustainable development. Padakhep provides basic literacy skills to the children and adults through its non-formal education programs both in rural and urban areas.

 
Objective
    • Provide non-formal basic education and market-oriented skill development or vocational training to the target beneficiaries
    • Provide communicative, empowering and livelihood skills to the illiterate population 
    • Introduce child/learner-centered and participatory methods of learning
    • Increase attendance of girls in schools and encourage them to complete their education
    • Extend successful non-formal primary education to drop-out children

Unique Intervention for Quality Primary Education (UNIQUE -II)

The UNIQUE project has been designed to pilot a flexible mode of non-formal delivery of primary and pre-primary education to target children in some selected, disadvantaged and underserved locations. In quantitative terms, it would ensure delivery of primary education to 297467 out-of-school children living in geo-physically backward and socio-economically neglected areas.The project aims to contribute to develop collaborative basic education system enabling all primary school age children to avail quality education.  The project provides non-formal primary education through 4230 Non-Formal Primary Education Centres.

The project started in January 2012 and will continue till December 2017. Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) is implementing the project with the partnership of eight organizations. Padakhep is one of them and is working in 7 upazilas of Chittagong district. The project is funded by European Commission. Specific objectives of the project are to:

  • Provide primary and pre-primary education to 297467 disadvantaged children from the target geographically susceptible upazilas.
  • Develop institutional collaboration and horizontal learning mechanism between formal and non-formal primary education providers.
  • Document and disseminate effective practices and lessons.
 

Post-literacy and Continuing Education for Human Development -II (PLCEHD-II)

PLCEHD added a new dimension to the diverse activities of non-formal literacy programs which are being implemented by Non-formal Education Bureau under the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. PLCEHD project is designed to turn the target people (11-45 years) into skilled human resource through training on skill building, profession-oriented activities, income earning and creative activities in addition to making them literate under literacy program. On completion of the training on skill development for self employment, trainees will be provided with microcredit support so that they can carry on petty business.

Padakhep has been implementing the project at Feni sadar, Daganbhuyan, Porshuram, Fulgazi, Chhagolnaiya and Sonagazi upazilas of Noakhali district as one of the co-partners. The project will continue up to 2012.
